Welcome to our thriving and dynamic Sixth Form. We are so active in this part of the school that we might not cover everything we do in just one page, so please come and visit us to see how things really are!

State of the art facilities

Sixth Form life revolves around its specialised facilities. The Study Centre is a large suite of rooms which houses a number of computers with internet access, and large tables on which to spread out your work. Here, students can also access university open day information, and gather details of any job advertisements. The Sixth Form Administration Centre is based alongside the study area, and here all queries are dealt with in a pleasant and supportive manner.

A superb new internet cafe has been provided for Sixth Form students and here it is possible to purchase hot and cold drinks, food and snacks throughout the day. A large plasma screen television and comfortable seating make this the best place to chill and relax with friends.

 

What do we offer?

Students usually study the equivalent of four level 3 courses. These typically are selected from a wide range of AS and A2 subjects, and BTEC National. Studying at post 16 level is very exciting, and our many and varied courses offer opportunities to follow a wide range of career paths. Our examination results at this level are impressive.

Other opportunities

 

Alongside our academic opportunities, students are encouraged to play an active role in the life of the school and local community by taking part in the Prefect and Ambassador systems. Prefects support teachers in their break and lunchtime duties, assist with daily bus journeys and work with members of a specific house. Ambassadors contribute by working with others either in the school setting (e.g. mentoring or helping with a class of younger pupils) or outside the school, such as helping to paint the backdrop for a local theatre group production. Prefects and Ambassadors are very valued members of the school.

Other opportunities for our students lie in the sporting arena. We have excellent facilities for students to pursue their interest in sport either seriously or recreationally. Our representative teams perform very well at District, County and National level. Likewise, Music and Drama feature prominently as Sixth Formers take a leading role in school productions.

We operate thriving Young Enterprise groups in the Sixth Form. Students join together to form a company and are supported by a local business representative. Over the last few years, our groups have won many awards in Young Enterprise competitions (Click here to read a recent press release). Millennium Volunteers are also active in our Sixth Form, as well as the local "Interact" group.
