The Deepings School Sixth Form encourages all students to take part in Work Experience.
This is a valuable opportunity during which students can demonstrate skills and abilities which will enhance their future applications to employment, apprenticeships or University. Where possible, we encourage students to try and access a placement related to their future career intentions, but we do recognise that this is not always feasible. In effect, placements should be sought which enable students to demonstrate key skills of communication, time management, prioritising, team work and independent work.
To support this process, we have designated Monday 15th July to Friday 19th July 2019 as year 12 Work Experience week. Students will attend their Work Experience placement from Monday 15th to Thursday 18th, and are then expected back in school on Friday 19th for a de-brief and feedback session.
Securing a placement
Students are required to secure their own work placements.
To help with this, there is a database on the school system which lists over 400 employers that have provided work experience places to our students in the past. Students can access this in the Student Shared Area under Careers/6th Form/Work Experience Providers Database September 2018. Mrs Taylor, our Careers and Events Manager, may be able to provide additional resources.
Once students have received confirmation from an employer that they are able to offer them a place, they must complete a Work Experience Placement Form so that we can check that all insurance and Health and Safety requirements are in place. Forms are available from the 6th Form Admin office or can be downloaded from this page.
Students are not permitted to attend work placements until all relevant paperwork has been received and checked by the school.
In some instances, employers are not able to accommodate placements in the designated week, and in this case students should arrange their placement outside of school times. Students would then be required to attend school as normal during the designated week at the end of term. Please contact the 6th Form Admin office if you require more information.
We expect that all Year 12 students have made arrangements for their Work Experience Placement by Friday 24th May 2019; any later may make it too late to arrange any necessary Health and Safety Risk Assessments.
